Windermere's Reedbeds

The talk about reedbeds held on 1st August was successful with over 25 people coming to the Freshwater Biological Association to learn about the ecology of reeds and the reasons for the decline of reedbeds on Windermere.  We also heard what is being done to restore them, through the Windermere Reflections 'Restore the Shore' project.  It was fascinating to hear about the work being done by Dr Mike Sturt (from South Cumbria Rivers Trust), Gary Rushworth and Soraya Alvarez and it was an enjoyable and informative evening.

Reed: All about it - The changing face of Windermere's shores

As part of the Clear Waters Oral History project there are a series of FREE talks for project participants and the public. The next talk is Reed: All about it - The changing face of Windermere's shores, by Gary Rushworth, Soraya Alvarez and Mike Sturt.  Reedbed habitat was once a dominant feature of the Windermere shoreline.

Welcome to the Clear Waters website!

We have just launched the website for the Clear Waters Oral History project! This exciting new project is run by the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA) and is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Local people will be interviewed about their memories of the water bodies in the Lake District and the changes that have taken place since WWII.  We are looking for volunteers to participate in the project and would also love to hear from anyone who has memories they would like to contribute.
